So, what does a person use a doily for today? Surely not to wipe our child’s ice cream dribble. The following are ideas I’ve found that are easy to incorporate into your décor. Doilies are delicate and airy—perfect for lifting the mood in a room. They add texture to a bed or chair while giving a room a sense of romance.
Doily Table Runner – stitch several doilies together of different shapes and sizes to make a beautiful table runner.
Doily Bowls – Take a large doily, soak it in starch, squeeze out excess, invert a bowl and cover with plastic wrap, place doily over and gently shape it. Let it dry for 1-3 days. They look like crowns and make pretty candle holders. {Click here for a detailed DIY}
Doily Pillows – Sew the doily to a contrasting-colored pillow. The delicate pattern adds texture to your bed or chair. For an excellent tutorial to make this lovely pillow, I recommend “Running With Sisters” out of California. Vintage Lace Doily Pillow – Running With Sisters
Doily Wall Art – Do you have a doily your grandmother made or has a special flair? Attach it to a fabric covered board and frame for an interesting piece of art. I found this fun tutorial from Framed doily Art Project – My Turn for Us.
Doily Vase Wrap
Tightly wrap a vase with doily and secure with wire. Fluff fringe over wire and add ribbon if desired.
